buying new computer (usa)
Hi. I am looking to buy or build a new puter and I haven’t kept up with technology for the last coupl of years. My old computer has AMD atlon 2900 and I’ve upgraded video card to Gforce 7800. Only 500 of ddr ram is there and I am not sure if it make sense to buy more ram ( only 2 more slots are awailable) or just spring a grand and get a new machine. With all resorce-hungry video games out there I imagine 2 gigs of Ram would be a nesesety. I will be playng other games like Crysis Stalker.
Any sugestions?

Your welcome.
BTW Feel free to use this website:
Tigerdirect.com for all of your computer needs, they usually ship in 2 days, and the prices own.

You're welcome? I've smashed better rigs than that. Honestly, did you not notice that it had a crap CPU, a sub-par PSU (<300W), and *GASP* Intel on-board graphics? I also find newegg.com to be far better than that (spit) other place.

Newegg.com > all sites to buy parts from.
But yeah, get yourself a quad core processor, couple of 8800GTX's, water cooling, a few nice SATA Hard Drives, and a sexy case to compliment it. Bah and of course, the RAM.

Newegg vs. Tigerdirect, round 1. FIGHT!
My current computer was built using parts bought from both places. Surprisingly enough, they all work together! Now, on to my favorite part. I'm going to be upgrading with taxes, and I've put myself on a budget of about $1000. I won't be replacing my video card.
Here's what I have so far. This leaves me with about $150 of wiggle room, just in case my taxes aren't as much as I expect. I will be running this with a 7900 GT, so I'm guessing it would work just as good with a 7800 GT.

oh, and what would be better - to build from parts from newegg and such or buy from cyberpower or such?

Serial ATA, It's the successor of the former PATA (Parallel ATA) drives, It's just better and most common motherboards support up to 4+ of them, Seems PATA drives aren't really popular anymore. And honestly, If you buy parts offline, Just go to www.newegg.com, they're the best company to buy parts from online. IRL I would suggest Fry's Electronics (If you have one near you).

You don't need a monster computer like that to play games, that's insane. The link I posted above is a good place to start. All of those components are guaranteed to work together, I do this quite often. Also, you're asking questions that tell me you don't know how to build a computer. My advice, to save a TON of money, is to learn to build them on your own. Start here: http://www.buildyourowncomputer.net/learntobuild.html
If you're going to buy a prebuilt PC, go with a local vendor, they tend to offer higher build quality.

Lol I know, but I can dream. What malice posted is really pretty good too and will offer most of the power you need, though I don't know if you could play Crysis on (Very High) settings with it.

I got a chieftec case from them for so much less than anyone else was selling them. It was a great deal, and while that case is so heavy, it's built so well.

Crysis looks like a slideshow on an 8800 GTX if you try maxing all the settings.
I got an EVGA 8800 GT (a mere $200) last holiday and it runs fine on DX9 Very High in 1280x800. DX10 makes it drop under 30 FPS though... /sigh maybe somebody will get me top-notch GeForce 9s when the Crysis sequels come out.
Aim for an 8800 GT ($200ish) and Core 2 Quad Q6600 ($150ish) imo, if you'll do the latter and get a new PC.
EDIT:
BTW... 3 GeForce 8800 Ultras in 3-way SLI, Crysis in 1920x1200 resolution with 4x AA and 16x AF = 20 FPS average in Crysis. Roflcopter.

It's true. Crysis is so over rated, and not that great. But it has the highest demand (Graphics wise) for any computer game. So a lot of people base things around that: ''Can I play Crysis or not'', Thing is, if you can't, it doesn't mean your computer sucks, that game puts some of the most beastly rigs to shame, and not many people can shell out 2,000-3,000$ for a computer that will be out of date in 6 months.

Don't skimp out on a cheap power supply and it doesn't hurt to get extra wattage.
